Honor MagicBook Art 14: The Most Beautiful Laptop I’ve Ever Used

The Honor MagicBook Art 14 is hands down the most beautiful laptop I have ever used, and I am not exaggerating. After using it for about three weeks, I can confidently say that this device is not only one of the thinnest and lightest laptops on the market, but it also brings something completely unexpected and quite literally shocking. Since this is an Honor laptop, I had to explore the entire Honor ecosystem to see how well it integrates. But before we delve into that, let’s start with the unboxing experience.

Unboxing the Honor MagicBook Art 14:

The Honor MagicBook Art 14 is so light that even its packaging reflects its slim design. Inside the box, you get the stunning laptop with its sleek emerald green finish, which has been my favorite color for a while. Seeing it on a laptop is a real treat. In a separate small box, you’ll find a 65W USB-C charger. The moment I held this laptop, I was shocked because I have never encountered a 14.6-inch laptop this light and this thin. It’s almost eerie how lightweight it is. Honor truly deserves recognition for bringing innovation to the laptop market. They first impressed me with their foldable Magic V3, the thinnest foldable phone available, and now with this MagicBook Art 14 masterpiece.

Design and Build Quality:

So, how did Honor manage to create such a marvel? The body of the MagicBook Art 14 is made of magnesium alloy, while the keyboard is crafted from durable titanium. This combination makes the laptop incredibly light and thin without sacrificing durability. While I haven’t dropped it yet and certainly don’t intend to, I feel confident that it could withstand a fall. It weighs around 1 kg and is just 11.5 mm thick, outdoing the MacBook Air in both thickness and weight despite being a larger 14.6-inch size. Carrying this laptop around, whether in my bag or by hand, is an absolute joy.

Ports and Connectivity:

The MagicBook Art 14 is well-equipped with a solid range of ports. It features two super-fast USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2), a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, a headphone jack, and an HDMI 2.1 port. This variety of ports ensures that you can connect all your essential devices without needing additional adapters.

Audio and Keyboard Experience:

The laptop comes with a six-speaker audio system powered by AI, providing a superior sound experience. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, making typing a breeze. The trackpad is also well-sized and comparable to those found on other high-end laptops.

Display Quality:

Opening the laptop reveals a stunning 14.6-inch OLED FullView touch display with a resolution of 3.1K, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 700 nits of brightness. This display is virtually bezel-less, providing an immersive visual experience. It’s the best display I’ve seen at this size – bright, vibrant, and perfect for watching media or playing games. The innovative design choice that allows for this nearly bezel-less screen is the magnetic, detachable AI camera. This 1080p webcam, which attaches to the side of the laptop, can easily be detached and placed on top when needed. You can even attach it in the opposite direction to capture a back view. This unique solution allows for a more immersive screen experience when you’re not using the camera.

Eye-Friendly Technology:

Honor is known for creating displays that are gentle on your eyes, and this laptop is no exception. The MagicBook Art 14 features a 4,320Hz PWM dimming number, significantly reducing screen flickering and preventing eye strain during long usage periods. The OLED display offers rich colors and deep blacks, making it perfect for extended viewing sessions.

Performance and Specifications:

The Honor MagicBook Art 14 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 chip, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. There’s also a Snapdragon X Elite variant available, giving users options depending on their performance needs. The Core Ultra 7 model I tested performed exceptionally well. Despite its thin form factor, this laptop is a powerhouse. I could play Red Dead Redemption 2 comfortably, either at 1440p resolution with low settings or at 1200p with high settings, maintaining impressive graphics quality. While it’s not a dedicated gaming laptop, it’s amazing that such a lightweight device can handle the latest games.

Video Editing and Productivity:

I also tested 4K video editing on this machine using CapCut with footage from my Sony A7 S3. Despite the heavy editing load, the laptop handled the task smoothly. After color grading and adding effects, I rendered a three-minute clip in about five and a half minutes, which is quite efficient for a laptop of this size and weight.

For general productivity, the MagicBook Art 14 excels. It runs Windows 11 Home, offering numerous features and customization options. Honor has also partnered with Microsoft to bring a fully integrated Co-Pilot experience to this laptop. With a dedicated Co-Pilot button, you can access AI-assisted productivity tools instantly, whether you’re writing an essay, drafting an email, or coding.

Honor Ecosystem Integration:

Using the Magic V3 as my primary Android phone allowed me to test Honor’s ecosystem with Magic Ring. This feature seamlessly connects your Honor devices, enabling screen sharing, data transfer, and synchronized notifications across your devices. The app integration, such as synced Notes, is impressive. You also have Favorite Space, where you can drop any file, and it will be instantly available across all your Honor devices. The seamless experience offered by Magic Ring is truly remarkable.

Battery Life:

In terms of battery life, the MagicBook Art 14 provides about 8 to 9 hours of usage for light to moderate tasks like browsing, emailing, and watching media. For more intensive tasks like gaming or 4K video editing, you can expect around 3 to 4 hours of battery life. The 65W charging is fast, allowing you to charge the laptop from 0 to 100% in just about 70 to 75 minutes.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, the Honor MagicBook Art 14 is a stunning laptop, both in terms of design and performance. The unique detachable magnetic AI camera is a brilliant addition, allowing for a bezel-less display that looks incredible. The emerald green finish is striking, making it one of the best-looking 14.6-inch laptops on the market. The Intel Core Ultra version I used performed admirably, but if you need more power, the Snapdragon X Elite variant might be worth considering.

In conclusion, the MagicBook Art 14 is a fantastic all-rounder that balances beauty, performance, and innovation. I’m genuinely impressed by this device, but I’d love to hear what you think.
